The Traxxas Jato 3.3 Nitro is described by its manufacturers as a real world street fighter. The fact that the 2WD stadium truck can expertly manoeuvre all kinds of terrain, including the dreaded rough paths could have something to do with that nickname. This machine requires only a tyre change and it will hold its own in a dirt track without breaking a sweat. This product is capable of extreme speed and is not for newbies and learners. It requires an expert level of 5, and solid knowledge of nitro RC vehicles. In order to enjoy full speed running of this machine, it is advisable to lock off a large, obstacle-free course and keep pedestrians and motorists away from the area.

The Jato runs on a 2-speed transmission, which blows away most purpose-built on-road cars. Its extremely powerful TRX® 3.3 Racing Engine manages amazing acceleration, with top speeds of over 65mph. It goes from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Now, there’s something to excite the speed-chasers! It comes with Traxxas Stability Management TSM® which enables your vehicle to maintain its stability regardless of terrain, and at top speed. It ensures that the vehicle maintains its line while navigating corners and rough stretches.

You’ll have to buy the Nitro fuel separately and use the fuel bottle to dispense some oil into your engine when you’re ready to start running it. You might also have to buy AA batteries if they do not come in the pack. These are essential to running the remote control and receiver system.

Engine

The manufacturers of this amazing machine customised its every component for performance and speed, right from its engine. The TRX 3.3 Racing Engine is fully optimised for durability and draws from Traxxas 14 year history of remarkable engine design and development. For starters, this engine produces an impressive 60% more peak horsepower than the TRX 2.5, making it the most powerful TRX engine ever made! The engine’s work is made easier by the Traxxas Resonator aluminium tuned pipe which is precision engineered and dyno tested to optimize the engine’s power output, delivering the amazing top speed and acceleration TRX engines are known for. It also comes with the EZ-Start push button electric starter, as well as simple tuning from the two-needle composite slide carburettor.

Anaconda Performance Tyres

The Anaconda high performance tyres contain a special kind of rubber that hugs the asphalt and provides much needed sticky traction on slick slippery roads. These tyres come are moulded with foam inserts which couple with the well-designed directional tread to provide the much needed stability for high speed street running. Hopping curbs will come easy to you, with the truck’s ground clearance and expansion joints.

It also comes with front and rear sway bars that provide absolute stability, by improving traction as you navigate sharp corners and steering. They reduce body roll and sway and are fully adjustable and come with three additional bar weights to help achieve get your most favourable speed.

Sealed Limited Slip Differential

You can optimise and tune the sealed limited slip differential with either lighter or heavier lube to maximise traction in the rear tyres. Unlike a ball differential, the Jato 3.3’s sealed gear differential does not wander out of adjustment, and it remains virtually maintenance free. Obviously this works best for a high performance truck such as this one. The design of the transmission makes it easy to tune the differential, even during a race. Simply remove four screws and the rear cover to reach the differential.

GTR™ Shocks

The GTR shocks on this machine can be tuned for any track condition. They provide super-smooth internal surface finishes, and reduce weight to bare minimum. Traxxas silicone X-seals offer better sealing capabilities that the usual O-ring seals used in most other RCs. To keep out air and prevent oil foaming, these shocks have volume compensating air bladders. All this means that your ride will be silky smooth and adjustable to whatever your preferred settings based on track condition.

 Telemetry Sensors and intuitive touch interface

Customisable dashboard

This is perhaps the most interesting feature of the Traxxas Jato 3.3. the Traxxas Link dashboard will light up when you outfit your machine with the optional telemetry sensors. The Link records real-time telemetry data, such as speed, temperature, RPM and battery voltage as you drive. You can use the recording function on the dashboard to record your dashboard view, to avoid being distracted as you try to outmanoeuvre your opponents on the track. You can save, review and share the recordings to compare notes with your friends.

The link can be accessed on an intuitive Android, iPhone and iPod interface, allowing you to tune and control your effects by simply dragging the sliders on your screen. You can even control your mechanics options; steering percentage, braking strength, throttle trim and sensitivity.

Large diameter disc brake

This powerful machine uses large semi-metallic friction disc and tough metal callipers for braking. With top speeds of over 65mph, it’s no wonder it needs such advanced braking technology. The semi metallic material is better-quality than graphite and nylon and was designed to provide smooth and consistent braking.

Body

The Jato comes with a low, aerodynamic body that keeps the Centre of Gravity low enough for maximum stability at top speeds. Available in red-yellow, blue, red and yellow, its bold graphics and decals call attention to themselves. The rear wing is attached with aluminium hardware to peak strength and an even finish.

Maintaining your Traxxas Jato 3.3

Nitro engines, especially the Jato, require attention and care, starting with the breaking in. Don’t be too rough when breaking in, to prevent overheating the engine. Also remember to clean the various detachable parts often, such as the air and oil filters. Treat them just as you would your full-size automobile and all will be well. You might also want to purchase a few extra front end parts, just in case. Keep in mind this is a very fast machine that goes from -60 in 4.2 seconds, and is recommended for use by experts.

Our verdict

The Traxxas Jato 3.3 is a great treat for expert RC drivers, with amazing speed capabilities and lots of awesome features that will keep rivers on top of their game. It comes with customisable controls, and is made to last with durable material. It is the epitome of power combined with precision.

Only cons we found, are that it is requires expertise to run, and is therefore not for everyone, and it has no reverse transmission. So once you get it, the only way to go is forward.
